The Delta Society’s Pet Partners Program teaches and screens volunteers and their pets for visiting animal programs in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, schools and other facilities.

The Delta Society is a non-profit human service organization with an international reach and local focus. Patients confronting mental, physical illness and disability are comforted by professionally trained therapy animals and service dogs. Human health and well-being is promoted through Delta Society led companion animal interaction.

The Pet Partners Program, created in 1990, ensures that person and animal are well-prepared to participate in animal-assisted activity and animal-assisted therapy programs. Pet Partners is the only national registry that requires volunteer training and screening of animal/handler teams.

Volunteers are linked with local Delta community networks which request visiting pets. Pet Partners are linked up with local contact facilities seeking dog therapy.

Currently, over 6,400 Pet Partners teams operate in all 50 states and 4 other countries. These dedicated human and dog volunteers help more than 900,000 people each year.

Adopt-A-Dog, a non-profit placement agency for distressed dogs and cats, will usher in its 20th annual Puttin’ On the Dog show and festival on September 30th. The dog show and festival takes place at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, CT from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Day long fun is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors and children over 5, free for children 5 or younger.

More than 6,000 people take part each year. ABC7 Eyewitness News’ Bill Evans & Marylee and Storm N. Norman from WEBE 108 will serve as Masters of Ceremonies. The WGCH (1490AM) crew will be broadcasting live. The dog show features Celebrity judging of sixteen dog classes. Judges will include Sandy Duncan, David Canary of All My Children and Bill and Dorothy Berloni, Broadway animal trainers for Legally Blonde. Previous winners have included Biggest Lap Dog, K-9 Krooners, A Pooch Who Can Smooch, and Clever K-9 Tricks, among others. Entrants are sure to receive Honorable Mention ribbons reflecting their dog show participation.

Face painters, clowns, auctions and zesty food will be on hand. Most importantly, dogs and cats will be on hand for adoption. Each year Adopt-A-Dog forms new owner and dog/cat adoptions. There will also be a Special Needs Tent, now in its 2nd year. Michele Rinaldi, Executive Director of Adopt-A-Dog, explains, “It will be even more heartwarming and meaningful than before and a planned event every year as this past year has been witness to many special needs and senior animals rescues and adoptions. In light of this, we will introduce the newly formed ‘Friends of Missy and Blue Special Needs Medical Fund.’ These two dogs were our very first special needs animals adopted out last year; Blue — totally blind and Missy with many medical compromises.” Donna Nives, Adopt-A-Dog co-founder and president, looks forward to each year of new smiles and dog adoptions .

Those interested in Adopt-A-Dog dog or cat adoption opportunities can call 914-273-1674 or email.

Entry form.
